Frequently asked questions about the translation process
How do I get a free quote?
Easy! All you have to do is contact me by clicking the button below, including as many details as possible about your project. These details should include the following:
– Which text you need to be translated
– When you need the translation
– In which format
I always aim to to reply within 24 hours.
What is your language pair?
I translate from Spanish into English. Professional translators commonly translate into their native language only, so as a rule, I only translate into English.
If you want to learn more about the reasons for this, check out my LinkedIn post on the topic.
How much will my translation cost?
Unfortunately I cannot provide fixed rates on my website because every project is different. The cost of your translation will vary depending on the length, the complexity of the text, and how urgent the project is, amongst other factors.
Contact me (with as many details as possible!) and I’ll get back to you with a quote ASAP.
How long will my translation take?
This is dependent on a number of factors, such as the volume of the project and my current availability. As a guideline, I translate roughly 2,000 words per day. I can provide an urgent translation service for short documents, and I normally charge a rush fee for this.
To find out about my current availability and when I’d be able to deliver your translation, contact me here.
Why should I hire you instead of using Google Translate?
For someone unfamiliar with the translation industry, it can seem tempting to run your text through Google Translate to save some money. However, machine translation is simply not sophisticated enough to provide you with accurate, well written results. You get what you pay for, and the truth is that if you want professional results, you need to turn to a professional.
Google Translate is a useful tool for getting the gist of something, or finding out the meaning of single words. However, there’s a huge risk when it comes to translating full sentences and paragraphs. It cannot understand word play or nuance like a native speaker can, nor can it adapt the tone of voice depending on the target audience. Automated translation websites can only translate text literally, and the final result usually sounds “off” to native speakers. For example, the phrase “a piece of cake” would translate to “eaten bread” in Spanish! Google translate simply wouldn’t know that.
A professional translator like myself understands your brand, its context and the cultural nuances of the target audience to make the translation sound 100% authentic. If you want to learn more about why a professional is always a good idea, check out my LinkedIn post.
What are your payment terms?
I invoice my clients at the beginning of the month for the work I’ve completed the month before. You will then have 30 days from the date on the invoice to complete the payment. I accept all payments via bank transfer and PayPal.
For new clients, I may require part of the sum as an upfront payment. However, this will be discussed with the client beforehand.
How do you keep information confidential?
HQ Translates has a strict customer confidentiality policy. Your files are private and protected from unauthorised access.
